CANCER REHABILITATION

Cancer Rehabilitation

One in four people affected by cancer face poor health outcomes after treatment. Suitably trained Physiotherapists can improve quality of life and outcomes. Our Physiotherapists have done further training to help create a personalised recovery plan both during and after cancer treatments. We can provide individualised plans to all people, men, women and young people who have been diagnosed with cancer, to help them heal through all stages of treatment and recovery.

Treatment includes:

  • Massage
  • Scar management
  • Exercise prescription
  • Balance exercises
  • Strength and conditioning
  • Clinical Pilates
  • Fatigue management

The role of Physiotherapy with cancer management has been shown to help with:

  • Improve bone health
  • Reduce anxiety and depressive symptoms
  • Increase muscle mass
  • Improve bladder and bowel function
  • Improve sleep and reduce fatigue
  • Reduce co-morbidities
  • Improve quality of life
  • Improve balance

Cancer rehabilitation can be preventative, restorative, supportive and palliative and is driven and guided by the goals of every individual. It has been shown that physical activity can reduce the risk of cancer mortality by 37% and can reduce the risk of cancer recurrence by 35%, when compared to less active patients.
